Fat experiences

Anybody here played a sport, got really fat, then tried to play it again

Just wondering if anybody has had the same experience as me

I used to play a ton of soccer/football when I was younger and I was on slightly chubby back then.I tried playing it again over 5 years later and over 100 pounds heavier and it really put into perspective how much bigger and slow ive gotten ,as well as how terrible my cardio is unsurprisingly. The only thing I kept were my skill moves and tricks I could do but I get out of breath after less than a minute.

I would like to hear anybody's story's similar to mine.

I wrestled in high school and In my freshman year of college. I did well went to the solo state championship twice didn’t win but I was there. I was anywhere between 130 and 140 but 135 weight I felt the most comfortable. I ended up feeling outclassed in college and wanted to focus more on class so I dropped it. By the time I graduated in 2016 I was 220 I would have been to heavy for anything other than ‘heavy weight’ which starts anything over 215 up to 285. Needless to say I’m a lot heavier now lol. I haven’t been on a mat since 2014 shit I barely did exercise until recently (walking) about all I can muster now bending down is terrible

I used to play real tennis from around 150-290 lbs. I stopped because at that weight when you start moving rapidly, it can be pretty hard to stop, and the walls that surround the court are *hard*.

I recently was persuaded to try a match, now at 365. My coordination is still adequate but I just can’t even begin to move rapidly enough for my old problem with momentum to even be a factor.

Also, a big belly gets in the way of swinging a racket.

There’s just something about softball players, too. They’re already thicker than pretty much all athletes. Then the muscles give way to fat later in life and they’re so sexy :-)

interesting view on skills vs fitness. a friend of mine who used to be a track & field runner in school at a competitive level, then got fat later as an adult when i met him, told me that he still had the speed - just not the endurance! which sounds like your experience.

i wasn't into sports so much as weight lifting and cardio at the gym... at 150-160 i was really fit, in great shape. then i took a break and porked up to 220 - when i tried to go back, my loss of strength, stamina and flexibility was really shocking to me. i felt completely out of place, i felt really embarrassed. having to get off the treadmill after just a few minutes because i felt like i was dying was a real shock!

now i am more than twice that size, and i don't know how i would even get up from the bench after trying a bench press!

The thing I noticed most with since playing football in college vs.many years later, was the running. I could get running and feel like my big gut and heavier body by 100+ pounds seemed to get going really fast with the extra weight and momentum but when it came to slowing down that was a different story- I know plowed through opponents trying to stop playing flag for fun.

Wow wild tread and very relatable.

I used to do capoeira and Kickboxing and i like to think i was decently fit.
After my initial gain i noticed doing handstands got a big heavier to do since there is more weight to carry. What i after gaining even more did not expect was how out of shape i would be. You feel your belly just move and be a bit in the way. Also injured my knee due to being to heavy i guess.
Well now ill just lose weight and train to recover.... Or stuff myself and get even fatter (more likely)

Exactly it was really eye opening for me it was kinda the moment I realized why fat people are the way they are it’s like once you have a weight problem it’s probably to late to go back and it’s a pure uphill battle, I could never put the gene back in the bottle even after several attempts. Eventually it’s like why am I even bothering I like it to much
